Central Park Zoo Trip
Okay, so I have to be honest. I live in New York City but I barely leave my neighborhood. Is that really LIVING In New York City? I still kind of have the excuse that I have a baby, she’s very impatient, It gives me anxiety thinking of her having a meltdown on the subway etc. etc.
Every now and then I get the itch and I say “we MUST get downtown”. Downtown because we live way uptown near The Cloisters. Basically, any place you think of as being NYC is most likely downtown to us. Every time I go downtown it does get easier, and I think if we can get a good portable stroller one of these days then we will really be on the move. As long as it’s nap time! HA!
Last week we took a trip to the Central Park Zoo! If you ask me this is a great first zoo trip because it’s small. Although small, it has enough animals to entertain the littlest explorers. There are two parts to the Central Park Zoo; the children’s zoo and the main zoo. The children’s zoo is pretty much a petting/(feeding) zoo? I don’t know…but bring quarters if you go. The main zoo is a big square with a couple of indoor exhibits and some outdoor showstoppers like the bears, and snow leopard.
Nora was a big fan of the ducks! She was also into feeding the animals in the children’s zoo but someone may not have known to bring quarters (me). Luckily, a few nice people gave her some pellets, so she could try it out (now I know!). We probably spent maybe a half hour before moving on to the main zoo.
In the main zoo, we saw everything, well we walked around to everything. A lot of the animals seemed to be trying to keep cool elsewhere, as they were nowhere to be seen. The highlight here was the penguins and the monkeys. Their rainforest indoor exhibit can be pretty cool too with all of the exotic birds as long as it’s not terribly crowded. We spent maybe an hour in the main zoo before Nora was getting hangry and ready for something other than goldfish.
Afterward, we met Pat in Columbus Circle and grabbed some burgers. I feel more and more comfortable the more I get out and about with her. I know with time we will be pros. Then again, by the time we are pros we will probably move out of the city…ahh well it’s a good learning experience. Until you forget to download an episode of Bubble Guppies for the subway ride home then it’s a different kind of experience… 😉
Overall a great trip to the Central Park Zoo! Our summer keeps getting better and better and there are still four weeks left. Can’t wait to see what other adventures we get into. T-minus 7 days til the OBX!
